Put eloquently Nuclear energy is stupid.
It's got the best intentions but it is not a good idea. Nuclear energy is an extremely expensive way to boil water. Expensive in terms of environmental costs as well as fiscally.
The uranium used from the Nuclear reactors has a half life of about 160,000 years. Now, how the heck do you suppose we get rid of that stuff?

Take care of that rocketman.
There must be an easier and more cost effective way to get energy. Hmmmmmm. Lets take California as an example.

"Yo. I got this Cali. Psh."
.....though Governer Davis deserves most of the credit.
Between 2000 - 2001 blackouts were happening (mostly) across southern California. They were so extreme they had to declare a state of emergency. To solve the problem they began talks of building Nuclear Power plants; however, their was problem. It takes at least three years to build a power plant.
So what was California to do? The people couldn't wait three years to solve blackouts. They took the most cost effective route.
They actually asked residents of California to be more conservative with their electricity. Schools and business' took the initiative. Reducing the amount of watts used a month and saving tens of thousands a month. Bigger companies saving in the millions.
What seemed like simple, mundane and ineffective things proved to work the best:
- better insulation
- switching to energy efficient light bulbs
- turning off appliances (i mean really turning them off)
- dry clothes without a dryer
- use cold water opposed to hot when washing
- buy energy star
1. I like the pictures you used.
ReplyDelete2. I admittedly don't know much about nuclear energy but I know it scares me. I think the word nuclear just scares me because I'm put off by any of it's uses. Whether that's nuclear plants or nuclear warheads, anything.
3. My dad wrote a post about the dangers of nuclear plants and weaponry just this week if you're interested :) http://excusemylogic.wordpress.com/2010/11/30/no-nukes-are-good-nukes/
4. It's a shame that to help the environment, simple things are so often ignored by people out of laziness, being apathetic, etc.
Lol at the comments from you and your dad at the bottom of his blog. But yea your dads blog is awesomely historical.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are necessary when talking about, "gloom and doom" (while things go boom, in dexters lab)
Yea it is a shame that people ignore the simplest easiest things while spending money on the expensive.
I miss the days of us on LJ. :'c
